The Exciting New 2012 Chevrolet Camaro Z28
The Chevrolet Camaro first hit the market in the USA in 1966. General Motors, Chevrolet’s parent company, wanted to build a car to provide essential competition to the sector controlling Ford Mustang. The 1967 Camaro used a frame and many large components from the Pontiac Firebird (another General Motors off-shoot), and so the speed and money needed to produce the car were massively reduced.
Regarded as a muscle car, or a ‘Pony’ car, a name which at the time referred to compact vehicles that were both within reach financially and had a stylish feel about their looks (a trend started by the Ford Mustang in 1964), the car joined an ever increasing selection of vehicles that were pushing for an ever increasing market. American buyers loved the performance, the styling and the great value of these vehicles and the growing sales made sure that many manufacturers put out their own versions out as rapidly as they could.
The 1970′s and 80′s were the Camaro’s best days, when the car was desired by millions of car enthusiasts, not just in North America but across the world. The mix of sports styling, power and various TV shows romanticizing muscle cars contributed to a strong market, and the desire for people to own one never went away.
There were five individual generations of the car have been developed. Generations one to four were developed between 1966 and 2002 (when development of the Camaro and Firebird both ceased), and development of the fifth generation Camaro started once more in 2009 and despite opposition to such polluting muscle vehicles from environmental campaigners, the car has been shown to once again be a big success with the American public.
The car was at times available in a hardtop and a convertible, the convertible was hugely popular among buyers from sea bordering states who loved the thought of driving along the beach streets with the roof down, the music up and the sunglasses on. The car has a massive following with many owners owing every generation of the car at some point and even more holding on to 1960′s models and maintaining them in pristine condition.
The car has been a very popular car for modification through the cars lifetime, with buyers spending weeks and months and cash adding aftermarket parts to improve their car’s style and performance. Camaro’s have been hugely successful in racing winning many Trans-Am series wins and numerous other races and championships through its years. Plenty of motor racing enthusiasts still use older Camaro’s even now and are still successful, often winning against much more modern competition.
The Camaro is still with us today, and with its legendary status, power and great style from the fifth generation version, it’s bound to be with us for years to come.
